Joe Vincent Meigs papers, 1858-1915 (inclusive).

The papers consist of correspondence, pamphlets, genealogical materials and papers related to the Meigs Transit System in Boston. Meigs designed and installed the system in 1885 and over 400 drawings as well as other materials connected with the enterprise are included in the papers. The correspondence contains an extended series of letters from his father, Return Jonathan Meigs, written between 1858 and 1888. Of particular interest are the letters written during the Civil War to Meigs who served in the Tennessee army. Also included in the papers is a memoir written by Meigs on his war experiences, and a substantial genealogical correspondence.
